AI & your data
Our AI systems process your learning data to personalise your experience — analysing performance patterns, identifying knowledge gaps, and adapting content to your level. This powers personalised study schedules, difficulty adaptation, smart review timing, and tailored examples.
Models are improved using aggregated, anonymised data across users. Your individual data is not used to train models serving other users without your explicit consent.
You can opt out of personalised AI features in your account settings, though this may limit some functionality.
Browser extension
The Nekolingo browser extension lets you study subtitles on YouTube and text on any web page. It is designed so that the pages you visit stay on your device.
What stays in your browser
Subtitle and page text is read in the tab you are already viewing, used to draw the study line and look words up, and discarded when you close the tab. We do not receive, store or transmit the transcript of a video or the contents of a page.
What is sent to us
Only what you choose to save: the word you tapped, the single sentence or subtitle line it appeared in as study context, and the language you are learning. Looking a word up sends that word so we can return its meaning. Nothing else about the page is included.
Site access
The extension has no standing access to the sites you browse. On YouTube it runs to read the subtitles you have switched on. Everywhere else it runs only on the page and visit where you press its button, and stops when you turn it off or leave.
Your extension key
Connecting the extension uses a key you create in Settings. It is stored by the extension on your device, and we keep only a one-way hash of it, so it cannot be recovered from our systems. You can revoke a key at any time in Settings, which disconnects that browser immediately.
The extension is not affiliated with YouTube or any other site it runs on.
